Announcing NeoGraft® Hair Restoration in Minneapolis and Edina, Minnesota

Thinning hair and receding hairlines can be devastating to both men and women, because a full head of hair is associated with youth, vitality, and attractiveness.  Our hair says a lot about who we are, how we feel about ourselves, and how others see us.  The fact remains that there are 50 million men and 30 million women suffering from hair loss or a receding hairline.  Fortunately, hair transplant techniques and technology have reached an advanced level where the procedures can be performed under local anesthesia with no sutures or linear scars and provide an excellent natural-looking result. Say “goodbye” to the days of “hair plugs” or a long linear scar in the back of your head and say “hello” to NeoGraft®!

What is NeoGraft?

NeoGraft is the latest in automated hair transplant technology.  The NeoGraft procedure and equipment allow for efficient harvesting of individual follicular units (FUE) in a non-traumatic way.  This technology improves the speed and accuracy of the hair transplant procedure which gives the patient an excellent result.

What is an “FUE” hair transplant?

“FUE” (or Follicular Unit Extraction) is a minimally–invasive, advanced hair restoration method in which individual hair follicles are taken from the back of the scalp and transplanted to the area of hair loss.  The FUE method takes the hairs randomly from the back of the scalp with a micro punch, so there is no need for a scalpel, stitches, or staples. You can take up to 50% of the hairs in an area before there are any signs of thinning, which means after your procedure the donor site will be essentially invisible.

What are the main benefits of FUE over the traditional “Strip Method”?

The strip method requires the surgeon to remove a strip of hair and scalp from the back of the head which needs to be closed with stitches and/or staples.  This can leave some patients with an unsightly scar across the back of the head, which can be difficult to camouflage.   It is also well accepted that FUE methods of hair transplantation heal faster and with less pain than strip method techniques. With the NeoGraft procedure patients can return to work in a couple of days, and once the healing is complete they can wear their hair short without having to worry about a visible scar.

What is the benefit of NeoGraft over other manual FUE techniques?

The NeoGraft machine is designed to be an extension of the surgeon’s hand, allowing for fast and accurate extraction of the hair follicles.  The punch device used to extract the hair is less than 1 millimeter in diameter and allows for precise extraction of the follicle without damaging the follicular unit.  This means a faster procedure with maximal graft survival.

Who is a good candidate for the NeoGraft procedure?

Almost everyone is a candidate for the NeoGraft procedure because patients aren’t limited by downtime after surgery, activity restriction, haircut style, or scalp laxity.  The NeoGraft FUE method can also be used to camouflage linear scars from previous hair transplants or to transplant hair to other areas of the body such as eyebrows or beards.

What are the major cost differences between FUE and linear-harvest hair transplant procedures?

The fee for FUE hair transplant procedures reflects the more detailed and intricate nature of the technique and technology in comparison to the “strip method”.  However, depending on the number of grafts you need to achieve your goal the price between the two is similar in most cases.

Are the final transplanted results any different between FUE and strip method?

The strip method removes a piece of the scalp from the back of the head and a team of technicians dissects the scalp tissue into follicular units.  Each follicular unit may have anywhere from 1-3 hairs coming out of it.  The FUE simply removes the follicular units without the need to dissect the hair follicles from the scalp.  Provided that the grafts are implanted with care, precision and artistry, the FUE technique will result in an identical outcome to that of the strip method.  The difference is not in the area of hair growth, but in the area in which the hairs are removed. Using FUE there is no visible linear scar.

Is NeoGraft possible for women as well as men?

Yes! 30 million women suffer from hair loss and NeoGraft is a great option for women looking to restore their hair.  Because NeoGraft is a minimally invasive procedure, it is a great option for the growing number of women suffering from hair loss.

Do I have to get a “buzz cut” to have the NeoGraft/FUE procedure?

No, we can shave small portions of the scalp to remove the donor hair and allow your existing hair to cover over the donor site if it is long enough.

Am I a good candidate for a hair restoration procedure with NeoGraft?

The best way to determine if you are a candidate is to have a detailed, complimentary consultation with Dr. Wudel.

Is there a way to see what I would look like after the procedure?

Yes! During your consultation with Dr. Wudel, pictures are taken and altered by our surgical software to show you what your post-hair transplant result can look like!

Are there any non-surgical alternatives to treat my hair loss?

Yes! At Renew Facial Plastic Surgery we offer a complete line of medical and non-invasive treatments for your hair loss.  In addition to Propecia® and Rogaine®, we offer the NeoLTS® light therapy system and Hair Medica® Products.  The NeoLTS system uses light to fuel the hair follicle and improve blood flow to the scalp, helping to remove damaging waste products and stimulate growth.  The Hair Medica product line is also formulated to improve the texture and thickness of the hair follicle to help stimulate growth and is safe to use after your hair transplant.
