Lip Augmentation and Lift

Generally around 35 years of age, the lips begin to flatten and thin out, the corners droop and lip lines begin to form.  Significant sun exposure and smoking history will further age the lips.  Counteracting the effects of aging on the lips can be done in a variety of manners.  At Renew Facial Plastic Surgery we augment the lips without the overinflated “duck lip” appearance that we have all seen when lips are not done properly.

What are the options for lip augmentation?

Lip augmentation can be done with a variety of fillers that are available and can be completed in the office.  The advantage of this type of augmentation is that it is quick and there is no downtime and limited bruising and swelling. The disadvantage is that fillers need to be repeated every 4-6 months since they are not permanent. Lips can also be augmented with your own fat cells. Liposuction is performed on the thighs or abdomen and the fat removed is processed and injected back into the lips to increase volume.  The transplanted fat typically lasts much longer than artificial fillers.  If you have a very thin upper lip you may be a candidate for a lip lift.  In this procedure a small strip of skin above the lip is removed and the red portion of the lip is advanced up to lift the red lip and improve its appearance.  Schedule a consultation with Dr. Wudel to see what type of lip augmentation or lip procedure may be right for you.
